Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre incident reported from Deogaon block in Bolangir district, a bride fled with her lover right after her wedding rituals were solemnised with another person.
The matter has left both sides embarrassed as immediately after the ‘Jaimala’ and ‘Saat Fere’ rituals, the bride went missing from the wedding venue. The development led to a frantic search by the girl’s family.
However, on scanning the CCTV footage, they spotted her sitting on a motorcycle and fleeing from the spot with a boy. It is suspected that the youth was her lover and the duo hatched the plan to escape from the wedding venue.
While the incident has left the people of Mukundapur in Deogaon stunned, the groom was seen shell-shocked. According to him, during the courtship period, the girl used to talk very normally over the phone and never made a mention of any relationship.
“The ‘baraatis’ had just finished our food when we realised that she is missing and later realised that she has eloped,” the groom said, adding that he has lodged a police complaint in this matter.
