Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Chandanpur Police in Puri district on Saturday arrested three persons for allegedly supplying brown sugar in the Chandanpur area. The police seized 157.38 grams of brown sugar and Rs 1,63,520 in cash during the operation.
The accused have been identified as Pradip Kumar Panda, Litu Pradhan, and Niranjan Parida — all residents under the Chandanpur police limits.
Acting on a tip-off, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Chandanpur Police Station, along with his team, conducted a raid at Bahabalpur Square on New Jagannath Road. During the raid, all three accused were caught red-handed and a subsequent search led to the recovery of the contraband and cash.
“Puri Police achieved significant success as part of its ongoing anti-drug campaign. Acting on intelligence inputs about the movement of interstate drug suppliers, the Special Squad, SDPO Sadar team, and Chandanpur IIC coordinated efforts and tracked the suspects. When the accused arrived to supply the drugs, they were arrested by our team,” said Puri SP Prateek Singh while briefing the media.
The SP added that efforts are being intensified to make Puri a drug-free district and more such crackdowns will follow.
