Balasore: Excise Department officials have seized brown sugar weighing 265 gm estimated to be worth about Rs 26.5 lakh from Machhia area under Basta police limits in Balasore district today. One person has been arrested in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Mohsin Kadir of Basta area.
According to Bhakta Charan Swain, Sub Inspector (SI) Excise department the accused is a habitual offender and procured the contraband for peddling.
“While we were patrolling we got a tip-off that a man in Macchia area was carrying brown sugar. We caught him. We have seized brown sugar weighing 265 gm from his possession and its estimated to be worth about Rs 26.5 lakh. He has revealed that he procures brown sugar for peddling. He is a habitual offender,” informed Swain to reporters.
