Bhubaneswar: The flying squad of the State Excise Department on Tuesday arrested two persons and seized 515 grams of brown sugar estimated to be worth over Rs 51 lakh from the Manguli area in Cuttack district.
The accused have been identified as Sipun Nayak of Dhenkanal district and Dibesh Nayak of Angul district.
According to sources, excise personnel were conducting a patrol in the Manguli area on Tuesday afternoon when they intercepted the duo. A total of 223 grams of brown sugar was recovered from Sipun, while 292 grams were seized from Dibesh.
Following their arrest, both were produced in court.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the contraband was being trafficked from Balasore to Angul. Further inquiry is underway.
