Balasore: In the biggest-ever haul of brown sugar this year, police have seized around 10 kgs of the contraband from the Arad Bazaar area under Sahadevkhunta police limits of Balasore town today.
The seized brown sugar is estimated to be worth around Rs 11 crore, informed IGP (Eastern Range) Himanshu Kumar Lal.
As many as six persons have been arrested in this connection.
The accused persons have been identified as Ayub, Sk Hussain, Laden alias Sk Safiq, Sk Raju, Badu alias Sk Sameer, and Rintu Tarei.
While Ayub hails from Madhya Pradesh, the remaining five others are from the Arad Bazaar area under Sahadevkhunta police limits. Ayub is said to be the prime accused.
Police have also seized a bike, a scooty, 5 mobile phones, and Rs 21,000 in cash from the possession of the accused persons.
All the arrested persons have been forwarded to court.
