Khordha: Khordha Town police during a raid on a house at Swapneswar Sahi here have seized brown sugar worth Rs 5 lakh and arrested five persons including a woman.
Acting on intelligence inputs over a deal in brown sugar taking place, Khordha Town police conducted a surprise raid on the house of one Prakash Behera at Sapaneswar Sahi on Wednesday afternoon.
During the raid police arrested Prakash Behera’s wife Tofani Behera(30), Sanjay Kumar Sahu alias Dugu(27) of Sri Ramnagar, Sarbeswar Behera alias Bapi(30) of Gurujanga Dewan Sahi, Kanha Nayak(27) of Gurujang Bhoi Sahi, and Pradipta Kumar Rath alias Chinu(31) of Tangi Chandpur.
Police have seized 50 gm of brown sugar from their possession. The estimated value of the seized contraband is around Rs 5 lakh.
Police have registered a case under the provisions of the NDPS Act and forwarded the accused to court.
