Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has nabbed Simanchala Jena, prime accused in the brutal murder of a youth at Nayapalli area here which was captured in the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera late night on Saturday.

Confirming the arrest, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said Jena used to live in Ganapati Nagar and committed the crime due to their past enmity.

As per the CCTV footage, Jena was seen mercilessly beating two youths with a bamboo stick leaving one dead on the spot and another critically injured.

Soon after committing the crime, he fled the spot when locals started coming hearing some noise.

The deceased was identified as Basant Pradhan of Ganapati Nagar and the injured as Lamodara of the same locality in the Capital City.

The entire incident was captured on closed circuit television (CCTV) camera, installed in a ladies hostel near to the spot.

While one was dead on the spot another was rushed to Capital Hospital and later he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition worsened.

“After seeing two bodies were lying on the road yesterday at around 11.30 pm our hostel warden called us. Then, we came and saw the entire act was captured in the CCTV camera,” said Bandana Hansada, an eyewitness.
