Bhuabneswar: The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) has implemented a new digital lock system to secure the transport of question papers for upcoming exams and prevent paper leaks.

BSE Vice President Nihar Ranjan Mohanty announced this initiative on Wednesday.

The digital locks will first be used for the Odisha Senior Secondary Teachers Eligibility Test (OSSTET), which starts on January 17.

The distribution of question papers began on Tuesday, with 18 districts already receiving their packages. Another 12 districts will receive them today. These packages, previously sealed, are now placed inside metal containers with digital locks.

Mohanty said, “We will be monitoring the entire process with GPS tracking, ensuring the question papers are secure during transit from the BSE to the district headquarters. The digital locks offer three methods of access: centrally, with our command to unlock; through a password system; and the third is using a chip.”

He further added, “If anyone attempts to tamper with the metal containers, we will receive an immediate alert. In case of network issues, the digital locks can be unlocked using a password or chip.”

Looking ahead, Mohanty confirmed, “The use of digital locks will also be extended to the Matriculation Board exams in the future.”
