Bhubaneswar: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed while five others sustained critical injuries in a road accident while returning to their base camp in Malkangiri district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased paramilitary personnel has been identified as Gaurav Pandey, a havildar with the 142 battalion of BSF.
Pandey, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was killed on the spot when the private Innova, he was travelling in along with other North‑Indian jawans back, slammed head‑on into a truck near Chintoor on the Andhra‑Odisha border around 2:30 am.
The crash ripped the car apart and the collision was so severe that Pandey died on the spot and it left five fellow soldiers critically injured. The injured jawans are being treated in Bhadrachalam.
Police and BSF officials suspect the truck’s malfunctioning headlight caused the car driver to miss the oncoming vehicle, triggering the deadly collision.
