Puri: The mortal remains of BSF jawan Pratap Parida were consigned to flame with full state honour at his native village Malla of Badatara panchayat under Gop block of Puri district on Monday.
The BSF jawans accorded him a gun salute and guard of honour before his body was taken to the crematorium. Pratap’s minor son lit the funeral pyre amid the presence of local leaders, villagers, relatives and hundreds of people of nearby areas.
The body was first taken to the BSF camp in Khurda soon after the arrival and later to his village amid a massive procession.
Pratap died on Saturday after falling into a ditch near the BSF camp in Meghalaya. The BSF had informed the incident to his family members.
