BSF To Hold Half Marathon In October To Commemorate Martyrs Across Country

**Bhubaneswar: ** To commemorate the valiant deeds and supreme sacrifices made by the BSF troopers (the first line of defence) in the service of the country, the Border Security Force will hold a half marathon christened as ‘Run for Martyrs’ for the first time since its inception in 1965.

The event will be held on October 22 as a part of observing BSF Martyrs’ Day. This will be held in 200 locations all across the country to raise funds for the families of the BSF martyrs who laid their lives during their duty.

“The BSF battalion in Odisha will hold the state-level marathon in Bhubaneswar on the same day in which three separate marathons will be held in the capital city. The half marathon will cover 21 km for 18 yrs and above for both men and women, 10 kms for 18 yrs and above, and there will be shorter separate races for children below 14 yrs covering five km. The flag-off venue will be from gate no-4 at Kalinga Stadium at 5:30 am. The Odisha Police Headquarters has also shown keen interest,” said Arun Kumar, ADG, BSF.

“We will run towards the KIIT square. I request the Odisha citizens to participate in this marathon. We have launched a website, in which they can register online with a minimum charge of Rs 100. Offline registrations will be carried on in various parks on 14th and 15th of October,” informed J.C Nayak, Commandant, BSF.
