Malkangiri: The 88 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday organised a Civic Action Programme (CAP) at Gardenpadar village under Nakamundi panchayat for the people of villages under Korukunda block in Malkangiri district.
According to a press release issued by the BSF, clothes, stationery, household, sports items and lifesaving drugs were distributed to nearly 300 villagers during the event.
Malkangiri Sector DIG SK Sinha, Comdt 88 Bn BSF Vinod Sareen and DC/G FGT MKG Subhanjan Mohapatra were present during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the DIG SK Singha said that such welfare programmes inculcate a sense of security amongst the citizens.
More such programmes will be organised in the future, the DIG added.
Sinha motivated the youths to complete their education, and remain healthy and fit. He urged them to join the security forces and serve the country and assured them of all possible help in pre-recruitment training.
BSF has been associated with the public outreach programme for a long time. Such programmes would go a long way in winning the hearts and minds of the tribals and the gesture of a helping hand will definitely dissuade them away from the Naxals and bring them into the national mainstream.
The BSF, the first line of defence, always maintains good relations with the people wherever the Force is deployed.
The BSF has also been organising sports activities and distributing sports items to the youths, said the DIG.
The Civic Action Programme (CAP) is one of the major outreach initiatives conducted every year by the BSF deployed in the Maoist-affected districts.
Laxmi Mudili sarpanch of Nakamamudi, Headmaster Primary School Piplapadar and Ward members of the area appreciated the programme of the BSF.
A volleyball tournament was also organised at the venue amongst local volleyball teams. The winning team was presented with the trophy by the DIG.
