Sambalpur: The diatom report of BTech graduate Chinmaye Priyadarshini Sahu has been shared with Burla police by the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, of VIMSAR Medical College and Hospital here.
The diatom report of Sahu indicated that the 23-year-old died due to drowning, said Sambalpur SP Battula Gangadhar said. The investigation remains open-ended and all angles are being probed, he said.
“Whether she ended her life on her own or it was a case of abetment, is being probed,” said Gangadhar.
The Diatoms test is based on the principle that diatoms can be detected in the organs of drowned victims if they aspirated diatom-rich water into the lung before death (10). Diatoms are unicellular, photosynthetic and autotrophic organisms that live both in freshwater and saltwater.
Earlier, the post-mortem report of Chinmayi had revealed that she died due to drowning in the water. Now, the police await the Viscera report.
Sahu attended the convocation ceremony at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology in Burla on 1st March where she received the degree from the Vice Chancellor.
Later, at around 8 PM, she along with some other friends had gone to the Power Channel Bridge where she allegedly jumped into the water. On being informed, police along with fire service & rescue personnel reached the spot and retrieved her body, the next morning.
