Bhubaneswar: The Budget session of the Odisha Assembly began Monday with the address of Governor Raghubar Das to the House.
In his address, the Governor highlighted the positive impacts of the Puri Heritage Corridor project, emphasising its role in providing improved facilities for devotees and visitors and augmenting the security measures for the 12th-century shrine.
Governor Das also praised the state government’s efforts in effectively maintaining the law and order situation. He emphasised a significant decrease in Left-wing extremism (LWE) with 42 Maoists killed, 145 arrested, and 63 laying down their arms before law enforcement agencies.
The Governor also mentioned the government’s focus on tourism, allocating funds for the development of 15 tourist sites and infrastructure at 136 locations. Speaking about the development projects in the state, Das said that the state government is working to make all urban areas in the state slum-free by December 2024.
In the same vein, the Governor acknowledged the state government’s initiatives like ‘Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha’ and the ‘KALIA’ scheme, providing financial aid to farmers for agricultural development and poverty reduction. He also praised the government for introducing the Laxmi bus service, which, he hoped would transform the economy of the villages.
Das also mentioned the corpus fund for Odisha State Co-Operative Marketing Federation Ltd (MARKFED) to safeguard the interests of the farmers in Odisha.
