Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, 48-year-old builder Sasmit Biswal of Bhimpur locality under Airfield police limits of the city was allegedly beaten to death by miscreants in Pradhan Sahi area on Thursday. The incident is suspected to be the fallout of an ongoing land dispute.
According to police sources, Biswal’s body was found at the disputed site in Jamukoli area, where he had recently purchased land. His brother Lingaraj Biswal claimed that some locals had been preventing Sasmit from taking possession of the property for several days.
“Earlier today, police mediated when locals confronted my brother during his land inspection. But later, they attacked and killed him before fleeing,” Lingaraj told reporters.
Police have seized the body and sent it to Capital Hospital for postmortem, scheduled for Friday. A manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants.
