Nayagarh: A bus transporting about 20 patients from Sai Seva Sadan Hospital in Khudi, Khurda district to Harbhanga in Boudh district caught fire after the driver lost control of the wheels and the vehicle hit a road divider at Falpadu, under Daspalla Waligocha police station at around 5 am on Monday.
Locals rushed to the spot after the accident and helped the patients to alight the bus. On being informed, police personnel from Banigocha and firefighters from Daspalla reached the spot and doused the flames.
The patients were rescued and sent to the Daspalla and Bhavangocha health centers. Fortunately, no one sustained any injuries in the incident and the patients were released from the health centers after first-aid treatment.
The police have launched an investigation into the mishap. Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver lost control of the wheels owing due to heavy fog in the area.
