Bhubaneswar: The All Odisha Bus Owners’ Association has called off the proposed strike till October 31.
The association took the decision following a discussion with the government on Monday, Association general secretary Debendra Sahu said.
“We don’t have any issues in the government bus services between Panchayat to block headquarters. The government has no proposal to ply buses under LAccMI from block to district headquarters till October 31. Therefore, we have put the stir on hold till that day,” Sahu said.
The next course of action will be taken after October 31, he added.
“We had demanded that ‘Mo Bus’ services should not be implemented in rural areas. If it is done, we will suffer a lot. The government has agreed to consider our demand. A meeting has been scheduled for October 13 for discussion on that”, Sahu said.
The bus owners had called for an indefinite strike from tomorrow (October 10) protesting the government’s move to launch Location-Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI) to provide affordable transportation for people from gram panchayat level to the State Capital. The owners also protested the government’s move to launch ‘Mo Bus’ services in rural areas.
The government has planned to engage buses that would connect gram panchayats to block headquarters, district headquarters, and other major cities.
