Bhubaneswar: In a bid to boost rural development, the Cabinet has approved the addition of new guidelines to expand the scope of the “Bikasit Gaan Bikasit Odisha” programme.
The programme aims to develop the infrastructure required for rapid growth of rural Odisha by implementing long-term and multi-faceted development projects.
Under the new guidelines, District Collectors have been empowered to include necessary projects that are not part of the annual work plan. Additionally, projects proposed by MLAs can also be included in the annual work plan, provided they meet the specified criteria and do not exceed 40% of the total grant given to the Block/Gram Panchayat in a financial year.
The “Bikasit Gaan Bikasit Odisha” scheme was launched by Odisha’s Chief Minister to transform village infrastructure and bridge the developmental gap between rural and urban areas ¹. The programme plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore over five years to improve roads, community facilities, and overall living conditions in rural Odisha.
