Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) published the report of candidates contesting in Phase-IV polls here today. A total of 52 Lok Sabha candidates have been analysed for six seats- Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.
Candidates with Criminal Cases: 7(13%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. (BJD-0, BJP-4)
Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: 6(12%) candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. (BJD-0, BJP-4)
Crorepati Candidates: 17 (33%) candidates have assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore. (BJD- 6, Congress- 4, BJP- 3)
Lok Sabha candidate with highest amount of assets is Congress’ Navajyoti Patnaik for Balasore seat. He owns assets worth Rs 104 crore. He is followed by Rabindra Jena, BJD’s Balasore candidate, who owns assets worth Rs 72 crore. Then comes, BJP’s Kendrapara candidate Baijayant Panda with Rs 57 crore worth of assets.
The candidate with lowest amount of assets is Subash of Pragatishil Samajwadi Party contesting from Balasore, with Rs 7,000 only.
Coming to the Odisha Assembly polls in third phase, 334 candidates were analysed and the following data was found:
Candidates with Criminal Cases: 72 (22%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.
Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: 52(16%) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
Party wise Candidates with Criminal Cases: Among the major parties, 24(60%) out of 40 candidates analysed from BJP, 12(31%) out of 39 candidates analysed from Congress and 15 (39%) out of 39 candidates analysed from BJD have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Party wise Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: Among the major parties, 16(40%) out of 40 candidates analysed from BJP, 10(26%) out of 39 candidates analysed from Congress and 10(26%) out of 39 candidates analysed from BJD have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Crorepati Candidates: Out of the 334 candidates, 81(24%) are crorepatis.
Party wise Crorepati Candidates: Among the major parties 27(69%) out of 39 candidates analysed from BJD, 23(59%) out of 39 candidates analysed from Congress and 20(50%) out of 40 candidates analysed from BJP have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.
Assembly candidate with highest amount of assets is Congress’ Niranjan Patnaik for Bhandaripokhari seat. He owns assets worth Rs 60 crore. He is followed by Chiranjib Biswal, Congress’ Jagatsinghpur candidate, who owns assets worth Rs 33 crore. And then comes, BJD’s Pranab Kumar Balabantaray, contesting from Dharmasala seat with Rs 17 crore.
Kalinga Sena’s Umakanta Parida contesting from Balikuda-Ersama seat is the candidate with lowest amount of assets worth Rs 500.
