Dhenkanal: Police recovered a car looted by miscreants on August 13 from Bhubaneswar and arrested two accused, including the mastermind, on Friday.

The car, a Maruti Swift Dzire, was booked online by the miscreants, who paid through PhonePe. They looted the vehicle at knifepoint, taking it to a forest in Radhadeipur near Joranda under Gondia police limits in Dhenkanal district. Three occupants, along with the driver, were present in the car during the incident.

Police investigated the case using PhonePe transaction records and mobile call tracking, leading to the arrest of Rajesh Kumar Nath, the mastermind, and his associate, Sumant Nath. Another accused is still absconding but will be apprehended soon, police said.

The arrested accused will be produced in court today, according to Gondia police IIC Salila Kumar Pradhan. The rescued vehicle has been handed over to its owner.

During the incident, the miscreants also snatched the driver’s mobile phone and gold finger ring, which they threw into the Brahmani river.
