Sundergarh: Forest department officials today recovered a carcass of an elephant calf from a pond near Khajurbahal village of Hemagiri forest range’s Doghara section in Sundergarh district.
It is being suspected that a herd of elephants had come to drink water last night and the calf might have got trapped in mud which led to its death. Footprints of several elephants were present around the calf.
A few locals had first spotted the baby elephant and then informed the forest officials. The officials are trying to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Sadly, a few days ago a leopard’s carcass was found near railway tracks with severe injuries in its body. The cause of its death is yet to be ascertained with clarity.
