Bolangir: DG Police Sunil Kumar Bansal on Monday placed Kantabanji SDPO Hrusikesh Meher on suspension. The action was initiated in connection with seizure of huge cash from a lodge in Bolangir last month.
Meher was earlier transferred after questions were raised on the recovery of the huge amount of currnecy notes from the lodge. A total of Rs 58 lakh was recovered from the Annapurna Lodge in September.
Total seven persons from Andhra Pradesh were detained in this connection. Investigation revealed that it was not a case of gambling but an attempt to hire migrant labourers from the district.
During the same period Rs 20 lakh was found at the police station, packed in a briefcase. These events raised an eyebrow following which Meher was transferred and subsequently suspended by the DGP.
