**Bhubaneswar:** The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted raids at 26 locations, including two in Odisha, over alleged irregularities in the Class X and XII examinations conducted by National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
Searches were conducted at the premises of officials working in NIOS, ex-officials of NIOS, study centres and private persons in six States including Bhopal, Sehore, Ratlam, Umaria (Madhya Pradesh); New Delhi; Fatehabad, Faridabad (Haryana); Bhubaneswar, Ganjam (Odisha); Guwahati, Kamrup, Lakhimpur (Assam) and Gangtok (Sikkim).
During searches, around 200 items such as hard disk drives, mobile phones and various incriminating documents including admit cards, vouchers, passbooks, mark sheets, cheque books, seals, diaries, answer sheets of NIOS, payments received from candidates, fees payment made to NIOS & seating plan of examination hall etc. have been recovered.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi had alleged that there were malpractices in the conduct of examination with respect to large number of students (around 1800) in the Class X and XII examinations, conducted by NIOS in April 2017.
Based on the complaint, CBI had registered a case on 23.07.2018 U/s 120-B, 420, 467, 468 & 471 of IPC and Section 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (d) of PC Act. As per latest reports, the investigation is still underway.
