Baripada: Mayurbhanj police have successfully busted a cell phone theft gang, members of which were pickpocketing during the Rath Yatra at Baripada.
Six members of the gang including two Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) were arrested and forwarded to court. Police have recovered 51 cell phones from their possession.
All the accused persons hailed from neighbouring West Bengal.
“One Animesh Adhikari had filed an FIR at Town police station on July 17th that his mobile phone was pickpocketed while he with his family had gone to watch Rath Yatra at Bada Bazar. Through location tracking by our team, a total of six persons were apprehended. They hail from Bardhaman district of West Bengal. Two are CCL (minors) among them. 49 stolen mobile phones have been recovered, 5 mobile phones of the accused persons have seized, Rs 3605 in cash,” said S Susree, SP, Mayurbhanj briefing reporters today.
Later in the day, a mobile phone return mela was organized at the DPO here today. As many as 49 recovered mobile phones were handed over to the actual owners by Mayurbhanj SP S Susree.
