Bhubaneswar: In order to provide the scope to medicos to learn and hone up their skill on mannequins instead of using cadavers in medical colleges, a central skill laboratory was inaugurated at the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and SUM Hospital.
Odisha Medical Education & Training (ME&T) Director Prof C. B. K. Mohanty inaugurated the new lab in the presence of SOA VC Prof Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, IMS & SUM Hospital Dean Prof Gangadhar Sahoo and IMS & SUM Hospital Superintendent Dr Pusparaj Samantasinghar.
The lab has been established as per the guideline issued by the erstwhile Medical Council of India (presently National Medical Commission) for teaching MBBS students, said a press note.
(ME&T) Director Prof Mohanty said that this lab would remove the possibility of infection for the students while improving their skill.
As the lab would be useful for teaching subjects like Anatomy, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and ENT, the medical students would get trained in the lab from the first year of the MBBS course.
