Puri: A team of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is on a visit here to do a feasibility study in connection with the proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport.

“A central team has come. We have shown them the sites for the proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport,” informed Puri Collector Samarth Verma talking to reporters here.

They have come for a tentative feasibility study of the proposed airport, Verma added.

“We have shown them different locations in Sipasarubali mouza. We have also shown them, different models of the proposed airport based on dimensions of the aircraft,” the Puri Collector said.

Apart from visiting the locations, the district administration has shared information with them on different aspects of the locations like land level, accessibility, CRZ regulation, dimensions-length, breadth etc of the airstrip, terminal building, he added.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on January 1 this year had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing an international airport at Puri in the name of Shree Jagannath International Airport, for which the State Government has identified land close to the pilgrim town.

The Civil Aviation Secretary had convened a meeting regarding the project with officials of the Odisha Government, AAI, and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on January 12.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri on February 3 had informed in Rajya Sabha that the AAI has been asked to carry out a pre-feasibility study of the site identified by the Odisha Government for the proposed international airport in Puri.

The AAI was asked to carry out a pre-feasibility study of the site based on the data provided by the State Government.
