Sundargarh: Amid rising cases of scrub typhus infections in the State especially Sundargarh and other western regions, a six-member team of health experts from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today reviewed the situation in the district and neighbouring parts.
The team comprises Dr Samir Gulati, Professor of Medicine, Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi, Dr Tushar Nale, Deputy Director of the National Centre for Disease Control, Dr Dhara B Shah, Assistant Director (Microbiology), National Centre for Disease Control, Dr Arushi Ghai, EIS (Epidemic Intelligence Service) officer, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).
Two experts from the State Health Department accompanied the central team.
The panel first held a review meeting with CDMO Dr. Dharaniranjan Satpathy in the conference hall of the CDMO office.
The team is scheduled to visit various hospitals and health centres in the district today.
The scrub typhus cases in Sundargarh district went up to 292 with 20 more new cases detected in the last 24 hours.
This infection spreads through bites of infected chiggers (larval mites). The common symptoms of the disease include fever and a black inflamed mark on the skin called ‘eschar.’
