**Bhubaneswar: ** The high level committee chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today approved of Rs 1023.59 crore assistance for Odisha affected by cyclone Titli in October this year.
As per a Press Information Bureau (PIB) note posted today, “The High Level Committee chaired by the Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh approved the additional assistance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) of Rs 1023.59 crore to Odisha and Rs 268.63 crore to Tripura.”
The meeting was held at New Delhi to consider the additional Central Assistance to these two States, which were affected by cyclone Titli and floods and landslides during the recent months, the PIB note said.
The high level meeting was also attended by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
Notably, funds for Titli-affected state Andhra Pradesh had already been released by the Union Government while Odisha has still not received the financial aid of Rs 2,014 crore that it had sought from the Centre.
Apart from deciding to raise this issue in Parliament during Winter Session, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also spoken to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in this regard on Saturday (December 15) last week.
Patnaik and Singh had discussed over telephone about Titli assistance following which Singh had also assured the Chief Minister that funds would be released immediately for Odisha.
After cyclonic storm Titli had caused damage to life and property especially in southern Odisha districts, a team from the Centre had visited the State to conduct ground assessment.
