Bhubaneswar: The historic Maa Kichakeswari Temple at Khiching in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district is set for a major facelift, with the Centre sanctioning ₹44.91 crore for its comprehensive development under the PRASHAD scheme.
Union Minister of Culture and Tourism announced the decision on his X handle, stating: “A new milestone in strengthening pilgrimage tourism in Odisha. Under the PRASHAD Scheme of the @tourismgoi, ₹44.91 crore has been sanctioned for the Development of the Maa Kichakeswari Temple Complex at Khiching, Mayurbhanj, Odisha Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, we are committed to developing world class facilities at our sacred destinations while preserving India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage.”
The funds have been approved under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) scheme of the Ministry of Tourism. The project aims to upgrade amenities within the temple complex, improve facilities for devotees and visitors, and enhance the overall pilgrimage experience without compromising the site’s religious and cultural character.
As a prominent religious and heritage landmark of the region, the development of the Kichakeswari Temple is expected to significantly boost tourism in Mayurbhanj. It is also likely to create new opportunities for tourism-related activities and contribute to the local economy.
