Centre Willing To Provide Additional Infrastructure For New International Airport In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: With capacity constraint at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar, the Centre is willing to cooperate and provide additional infrastructure to set up new international airport in the State Capital, said Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Puri informed that 30 per cent growth in the number of flights, 25 per cent growth in number of passengers and 24 per cent growth in number of cargo at BPIA can be addressed by setting up the new airport which requires additional land.

“Three sites have been identified by authorities in Odisha. But the Airports Authority of India (AAI) found them to be inadequate. The fourth site is under discussion,” he added.

Puri further said that normally an additional Greenfield airport is not constructed within 150 kilometres but since the existing airport has capacity constraint, the Centre is willing to do so provided the State Government provides adequate land.
