Bhubaneswar: Putting to rest all speculations of early elections, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha today clarified that the arrival of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the state has no connection with the timing of future general elections.
“EVMs have a life span. factory made EVMs are being supplied to different States including Odisha for use in future Elections. This has got no connection with the timing of future general elections,” clarified a communique issued by the CEO’s office here today.
The communique said that it has come to the notice of the CEO’s Office of some speculation in the Media regarding the early election.
“It is requested to refrain from such speculations,” the communique said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha on Tuesday received 8,200 new EVMs from Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) in Hyderabad in the first phase.
Representatives of different political parties were present when the EVMs arrived at the Puri district warehouse.
The arrival of these EVMs in Puri triggered speculation about early assembly polls in Odisha.
