Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly was thrown into chaos on Saturday as BJD and Congress MLAs protested over alleged mismanagement in paddy procurement, forcing Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn the House till 11:30 am.
The uproar began at 10:30 am, shortly after the House convened for the Question Hour. Lawmakers from the ruling BJD and the opposition Congress stormed the Well, raising slogans and displaying placards to highlight delays and irregularities in paddy procurement across the state.
Protesters shouted slogans including “Dhan biki na pari, chaasi kanduchi, BJP sarkar Chi Chi” and “Ye bhali byabasta chalibo nahi, chalibo nahi” to voice their grievances. Speaker Padhy repeatedly urged the members to return to their seats and allow proceedings to continue, but the commotion showed no signs of abating.
As a result, the Speaker adjourned the House till 11:30 am.
