Bhubaneswar: The Capital Police submitted a 700-page chargesheet in the high-profile murder case of woman constable Shubhamitra Sahoo.
The chargesheet names her husband, Deepak Raut, as the main accused, along with his associates. Also, statements of 42 witnesses have been recorded, and charges were framed under BNS Sections 103(1), 238 and 61(2).
The chargesheet includes evidence collected from the crime scene and the location where the body was dumped, as well as the forensic report and statements from witnesses. The court marriage certificate and photos of Shubhamitra and Deepak’s relationship are also part of the evidence.
According to investigators, Deepak had taken a loan from Shubhamitra, which led to the dispute between the duo. Subsequently, he eliminated her. After her death, Deepak purchased an insurance policy worth Rs 1,25,00,000, allegedly to claim the amount. Deepak later tried to destroy evidence, assisted by the other accused.
It is pertinent to mention that Shubhamitra, who was working in the office of the Traffic DCP, Commissionerate Police, went missing on September 6. Her decomposed body was later found in the Keonjhar forest.
It was mentioned in the chargesheet that, police have collected evidence, including forensic reports and witness statements, and plan to present several witnesses in court to prove the accused’s guilt.
