Balasore: At least one person was killed and seven others were injured after coming in contact with live electric wire during the pulling of the chariot on the occasion of Rath Yatra at Mathasahi under Basta police limits in Balasore district today.
According to reports, while devotees were pulling the chariot amid the sound of cymbals and drums, its top portion came in contact with live electric wire.
The priests and others atop the chariot jumped down on receiving an electric shock.
They were rushed to the Government Hospital at Basta. The attending doctors declared one Anil Kumar Sahu of Gudapala village dead. Seven others are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
