Chhattisgarh Naxal Ambush: Nation Condemns Dastardly Attack On DD Cameraman, CRPF Jawans

**Bhubaneswar:** The death of a Doordarshan cameraman along with two security personnel in an attack by Naxals that occurred in Chhattisgarh today afternoon has shook the nation to its core.

The deceased cameraman has been identified as Achyuta Nanda Sahu of Loisinga in Bolangir district of Odisha. Sahu was in the state for election coverage, stated reports. His death is being tagged as ‘an attack on the media’.

“Deeply mourn the dastardly attack on DD News Live cameraman and two CRPF Jawans by Naxals in Chhattisgarh. This cowardly act by desperate Naxals is deeply condemnable. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families,” wrote Ravi Shankar Prasad, Law & Justice, Information Technology Minister of India.

Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore too condemned the attack and tweeted:

Strongly condemn the Naxal attack on DD News Live crew in Dantewada. Deeply saddened by the demise of our cameraman Achyuta Nanda Sahu and two jawans of CRPF India. These insurgents will NOT weaken our resolve. We WILL prevail.

Doordarshan News on its Twitter clarified, “DD News had deputed team to cover Chhattisgarh polls, comprising of Camera person-Achyuta Nanda Sahu, Dheeraj Kumar and MM Sharma. In a Naxal attack Achyuta Nanda Sahu was martyred. The entire DD News family salutes his service and stands by his family in this hour of grief.”

Prasar Bharati tweeted, “The Prasar Bharati parivar condoles the death of Cameraman Achyutananda Sahu earlier today near Dantewada in Chhatisgarh. Our prayers with his family during this difficult moment. We also condole the death of two CRPF jawans, who were accompanying DD News team, at Dantewada in Chhattisgarh.”

Mumbai Press Club took to social media and tweeted, “Highly condemnable act of violence against the journalists. We condemn the killing and demand protection for media persons reporting from naxal-affected areas.”

Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi said, “It is an extremely tragic incident. The people who are present in those situations need raw courage to face the hardships. We hope the TV cameraman’s family is brave enough to face this loss. I pray for the soul and may it rest in peace.”

NDTV’s anchor Sonia Singh wrote, “This is extremely tragic. My sincere condolences and recognition once again of all journalists & TV crews who risk their lives to report in the most dangerous conditions.”

Editor Chitra Subramaniam said, “Tragic. Sincere condolences to the family. A salute to all other media persons covering disturbed areas.”

While condolences and condemnations pour in from across the nation, the situation has risen some serious questions about the safety of media persons in vulnerable spots.
