Nabarangpur: Chhattisgarh police have arrested two persons on charges of smuggling diamonds worth Rs 50 lakh.
Police have seized 745 pieces of diamond and a scooter from their possession.
The accused persons have been identified as Khokan Dhali and his son Biplab Dhali of Bharsundi (Tola) village under Raighar block in Nabarangpur district.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off Chhattisgarh police laid a trap and they were caught during vehicle checking by Shova police in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh while they were going towards Odisha.
Khokan and Biplab were trying to give a slip to Shova police when they were nabbed. Shova police have registered a case against them.
Gariaband SP JR Thakur has informed that Shova police have arrested the accused persons and registered a case under sections 379, 34 of the IPC and 4(21) of the Mining Act against them as they could not produce relevant documents regarding the possession of the diamonds.
Diamonds seized from the accused are estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh approximately, he added.
