Bhubaneswar: Odisha chief secretary Anu Garg on Monday inaugurated the ‘Sushree’ workshop organised by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) in Chandipur of Balasore, as part of the celebrations marking International Women’s Day.
The workshop, centred on this year’s theme “Give to Gain”, brought together women scientists, researchers and officials from various DRDO laboratories across the country to discuss women’s participation and leadership in science and defence.
DRDO secretary Samir V. Kamat, along with directors of different DRDO laboratories and several women scientists, attended the programme. Speakers highlighted the growing role of women in scientific research and the defence sector, and stressed the need to further promote their participation and leadership in strategic areas.
During the event, a souvenir titled ‘Sushree’ was released by the dignitaries. Garg also inaugurated an exhibition at the venue and visited various stalls showcasing scientific work and achievements by women researchers and scientists.
Later, the chief secretary held a meeting at the conference hall of the Balasore district collector’s office and reviewed the progress of key development initiatives in the district. The review meeting was attended by senior officials from the district administration and various departments.
Balasore collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas made a detailed presentation on several strategic projects underway in the district. These included the proposed Subarnarekha port project, the Subarnarekha reforms and tourism project, and the export potential of commodities such as pulses and seafood from the district.
Officials also discussed proposals aimed at the overall development of Balasore, including construction of a ring road, establishment of a museum dedicated to art, science and literature, and a proposal to develop Balasore into a municipal corporation.
Garg directed officials to ensure the timely implementation of development projects and emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among departments to accelerate the district’s growth.
