Bhubaneswar: Discontentment is brewing among devotees of Lord Jagannath following the removal of various focus lights soon after the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government changed in Odisha. The focus lights were installed to illuminate the exterior of Srimandir in Puri.
Expressing concern over the issue, Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena instructed the Puri District Collector to probe the matter and take necessary action against the unscrupulous elements involved in the matter.
Taking to his X handle, Jena wrote: “I have instructed Collector Puri @dm_puri to cause an enquiry into this matter and take appropriate action against the persons involved. Further efforts to be made to restore lights at the earliest pending permanent solution to the problem if any at govt level.”
After resentment from devotees and servitors, focus lights were reinstalled around the shrine by another vendor.
meanwhile, a case has been registered a Singhadwar police station in this connection.
It is pertinent to mention that several focus lights were installed for the beautification and illumination of Srimandir as part of the Srimandir Corridor Project undertaken by the BJD government.
It is learnt that an event company had installed the focus lights on a rental basis, sources said.
Following BJD’s poll debacle in the recently-concluded Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the company is alleged to have uninstalled the lights overnight much to the inconvenience of devotees and Puri residents.
