Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja reviewed the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, a state government scheme aimed at boosting milk production and empowering farmers engaged in cattle rearing. The scheme, launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in September last year, has a budget of Rs 1,423.47 crore for five years.
The review meeting, held at Lok Seva Bhawan, discussed the progress and status of the scheme’s implementation. The Chief Secretary emphasised the need for effective implementation to ensure maximum benefits for farmers and their financial empowerment. The scheme has three sub-schemes: Additional Subsidy Scheme for Cow Husbandry, Cattle Industrialisation Development Scheme, and Commercial Dairy Farms.
According to the review, in the financial year 2024-25, 35,494 applications were received for cow husbandry, and 2,500 projects were sanctioned, with 1,727 projects completed and a subsidy of Rs 24.5 crore provided. In 2025-26, 23,929 applications were received, and 4,184 were sanctioned, with 596 projects completed and a subsidy of Rs 8.36 crore provided.
The scheme has contributed to increased milk production in Odisha, with 9,170 buffaloes distributed, producing 10,080 liters of milk per day. The Chief Secretary stressed the need for evaluation of the scheme’s implementation by experts from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) to provide necessary advice and ensure farmers’ financial empowerment.
