**Nabrangpur:** The body of a 4-yr-old girl was recovered with her ears chopped off, and body branded with hot iron at various places. This incident occurred on Thursday morning in Kachrapada village under Raighar block of Nabrangpur district.
The girl has been identified as Pooja, the daughter of Shankar Ganda of the same village.
Pooja had gone missing on Wednesday evening while playing in the neighbourhood. Her family members searched for her frantically but in vain.
Her dead body was discovered on Thursday morning in the maize field of her father covered with a plastic pipe used for watering the plants. Her family members allege that it is a case of child sacrifice.
A complaint has been filed in the police station. Pitambar Sagar, the officer in charge seized the body and has sent it for post-mortem.
The police have started their investigation. They took the help of sniffer dogs but rains played a spoilsport.
However, such human sacrifices are common in the tribal belt of the State due to their superstitious beliefs.
