Childline Moves OSCPCR Against Child Rights Violation At Balipatana PS

Bhubaneswar: Childline Director Benudhar Senapati has filed a petition before the Chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) against the Investigation Officer (IO) of Balipatana Police Station (PS) under the Commissionerate Police here alleging violation of child rights.

Senapati in his petition has urged OSCPCR to investigate into the matter and take necessary legal action against the concerned police officer as per the provisions of law.

“An exemplary criminal proceeding against the IO may kindly be initiated by the Commission in the matter if the incident is found true,” the petitioner states.

The petitioner has drawn the attention of the OSCPCR to the news being published in different newspapers on 20.1.2021 that a criminal case has been filed against a seven-eight years old girl child under Section 107 (Abetment) of the IPC.

It has also been cited in the petition quoting her father’s media reactions that the IO had been informed about the age of the girl child but the concerned police officer was adamant.

However, when the child was produced before the Court of Addl. DCP, Bhubaneswar, her name was removed from the case.

“This a clear violation of Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and which attracts punishment for a minimum period of 3 years imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine or both,” argues the petitioner.
