Koraput: Koraput police have unraveled the mystery surrounding the recovery of a body of a young woman from the cashew forest at Chiliguda near Borigumma on January 2.
Police have revealed that the deceased was neither raped nor murdered as alleged, but had died of electrocution after accidentally coming in contact with live electric wire set up by poachers to kill wild boars.
Police have arrested four out of the eight accused persons. A minor brother and a cousin of the deceased are among the four arrested by the police. The other accused will be arrested soon the police said.
Briefing reporters, Koraput SP Varun Gunthupalli said that the Medical Officer has ruled out rape in the post-mortem report of the deceased.
“Despite that, we have sent all biological samples to the forensic lab for further reconfirmation,” added Gunthupalli.
The Koraput SP said that despite several spot visits and engagement of the DFSL team and dog squad for around a week initially, it was a blind case with no clues.
He said that after examination of 30 persons, there was some clarity in the case that the incident had occurred on the night of December 30 and the victim was from Chiliguda.
“Eight accused persons who include two relatives of the deceased from Chiliguda and six other persons from Majhiguda had set up a trap to hunt wild boar using 11 KV live electric wire behind the cashew factory at Kaliaguda. While they were waiting for a wild boar to fall in the trap, the deceased came out of her home to meet her boyfriend. Upon seeing someone she ran towards the forest and accidentally came in contact with the live electric wire trap set up to hunt wild boar,” Gunthupalli stated.
She was killed because of electrocution, he added.
The SP said that at the break of dawn, the accused persons visited the spot where they had laid the trap and after seeing that a young woman has been killed they were scared and shifted the body to a different spot hiding it under the bushes.
