**Bhubaneswar**: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Prasad Harichandan met the injured persons at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur who were rescued after the boat they were travelling in was capsized in the Chilika lake on Saturday.
Harichandan along with his party colleagues enquired about the health condition of the injured persons who are now undergoing treatment at the Government-run medical.
“It’s an unfortunate and very painful incident and we are expressing grief and praying for the early recovery of the injured persons,” OPCC Chief said after visiting the patients at the medical.
He said incidents like this had happened in the past but the State Government hasn’t taken any measures to stop such tragedies. There are rules and the Government should implement them to prevent such accidents in future.
Notably, the ill-fated boat with two boatmen and 29 passengers left Sabulia under Rambha police in Ganjam district to Ghantisila in the lake for a picnic. But on the way it over turned. A group of fishermen fishing in the lake noticed the incident and informed others.
Hearing the cry, some local fishermen, fishing inside the lake, rushed to the spot and rescued 22 passengers and later the fire brigade personnel rescued other seven persons.
Out of the total rescued passengers, 11 were admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur while two others were admitted to government hospitals at Rambha and Khallikote.
