Bhubaneswar: Chilika MLA Prasanta Kumar Jagadev was sent to Banpur Sub Jail today after he surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court at Banpur today.
Jagadev surrendered before Banpur JMFC after his interim bail expired today.
The Orissa High Court on Friday last had rejected Jagadev’s bail plea. Jagadev was arrested after he allegedly rammed his SUV into a crowd comprising mostly of BJP workers outside the Banpur block office in Khordha district on March 12 this year.
The incident had left 22 persons, including seven police personnel, injured. The irate crowd had dragged and assaulted Jagadev and vandalised his car.
The Chilika MLA had moved the High Court for bail after his plea was rejected by the lower court.
In April, the High Court had granted him interim bail for a period of seven days on health grounds. The court had further extended his interim bail period twice till May 11 and 23.
