Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev Moves High Court For Bail

Bhubaneswar: Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev has moved the Orissa High Court for bail.

Jagdev has petitioned the High Court against the October 8 order of the Khordha Additional Sessions Judge Court.

Worth mentioning, Jagdev had allegedly abused and slapped BJP’s Balugaon Nagar Committee president Niranjan Sethi in full public view.

Sethi had lodged a complaint against Jagdev with the police.

After which Balugaon Town police registered an FIR against the Chilika lawmaker under sections 341, 294, 323, 506, and 34 of IPC and sections 3(1)(R)(S) of the SC & ST (PA) Act.

Following the development, in order to avoid arrest Jagdev had applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court. His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the High Court on October 5 and he was asked to appear at the lower court by October 8.

On October 8, Jagdev surrendered himself before the Khordha Additional Sessions Judge Court and moved the court for bail.

The court rejected Jagdev’s bail plea and he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Later as the lawmaker claimed to be suffering from heart ailments, the court allowed for his admission to the Capital Hospital here under its custody.

After registration of the FIR by the police, BJD president Naveen Patnaik acted fast and immediately suspended Jagdev from the party.

BJP members during the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly had disrupted proceedings of the House demanding the lawmaker’s arrest.
