Bhubaneswar: Chimpanzee Durga gave birth to her first infant at Nandankanan Zoological Park on the late night of Wednesday, as informed by the Deputy Director of the zoo, Sanatan Kumar Narayan.
According to reports, Durga mated with Julu, another chimpanzee at the zoo, approximately 218 days ago. This marks Durga’s first experience as a mother.
Unfortunately, Julu, the oldest chimpanzee at Nandankanan, passed away due to age-related ailments on December 30, 2024.
With the birth of this infant, the total number of chimpanzees at Nandankanan Zoological Park has now increased to eight.
