Bhubaneswar: A day after resigning from Congress party, veteran leader Chiranjib Biswal today joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) at Sankha Bhawan, the party headquarters, in Bhubaneswar.
He came to the BJD office in a massive rally with his supporters and embraced the BJD in the presence of MPs Manas Mangaraj, Sasmit Patra and other leaders.
Biswal said he joined the party after being inspired by the welfare activities of CM Naveen Patnaik. “I have not come here with any political ambition. I would discharge my responsibility whatever the party would assign me. I am grateful to CM Naveen Patnaik and BJD general secretary Pranab Prakash Das for giving me this opportunity,” Biswal said.
Biswal, a former MLA from Jagatsinghpur, quit the Congress by tendering his resignation to Odisha Pradesh Congress (PCC) president Sarat Pattanayak on Saturday.
Biswal is the son of former deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Basant Biswal. He was the Congress MLA from Jagatsinghpur from 2014 to 2019. He had also been elected to Assembly from Tirtol in 2004. He had also worked as the working president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in the past.
