**Bhubaneswar**: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday quizzed Shashi Kumar Sahoo, BJP’s MLA candidate, in connection with suspicious financial deals with a company owned by Food Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister Sanjay Das Burma’s brother-in-law.
According to reports, Sahoo was BJP’s MLA candidate from Simulia assemble seat in Balasore district in the last assembly election and is also the State Executive Member of the saffron party.
He was grilled about three hours by the CBI sleuths in Odisha capital.
The young BJP leader had allegedly made a transaction worth Rs 1 crore with Team Media and Hospitality Pvt Ltd, managed by Das Burma’s brother-in-law Satyapriya Jaisingh.
Speaking to reporters after interrogation, Sahoo said: “I have some business relation with Sanjay Das Burma’s brother-in-law Satyapriya Jaisingh. I was asked (by CBI) to explain why and how the transactions were made and what basis.”
“I had transferred around Rs 1 crore and have submitted the details to CBI,” Sahoo revealed by adding they are working on apartment project in Jajpur.
Sahoo also added, “Besides, I have explained about a land which Kamalakant Das, owner of Bhubaneswar-based Hotel Solan Inn, had given me and later he took it.”
Worth mentioning, Satyapriya Jayasingh has already been quizzed by the CBI on August 11 on the basis of the information extracted by the CBI during grilling of AT Group chief Pradip Sethy at Jharpada jail.
Sethy had divulged to CBI that Team Media had received substantial amounts from the AT Group.
The CBI had also summoned Das Burma to submit documents pertaining to the Mitsubishi Pajero, which the opposition political parties alleged that the Minister has received the luxurious vehicle as a gift from Sethy.
In another similar development, the central investigating agency issued fresh notices to Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Prabhat Biswal’s wife Laxmi Bilasini and Balasore MP Rabindra Jena in connection with the Seashore chit fund scam to appear before it personally.
Following such developments, it’s now being widely believed that after a few days of silence the CBI probe into the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha has gathered momentum.
