Bhubaneswar: Panic spread in the Tumkela area of Sector-16 in Rourkela in Sundargarh district on Saturday after residents discovered a severed human leg inside a sewerage tank.

The gruesome find was reported to authorities, prompting immediate intervention by the Odisha Fire and Emergency Services team. Fire personnel carefully retrieved the limb from the sewage tank and handed it over to the police.

Officers from Sector-15 Police Station rushed to the scene and launched a thorough investigation. The body part was found submerged in the tank, raising alarms among locals about possible foul play or a macabre crime.

Police sources confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the victim and determine the circumstances leading to the limb’s disposal in the sewer. Preliminary probes are examining all angles, including potential murder, dismemberment, or accidental scenarios.
