Dhenkanal: The mortal remains of Martyr Manoj Biswal, a proud son of Odisha, were brought back to his native village Manikamara under Parjang block in Dhenkanal on Sunday, amidst a grand procession.
Biswal, a dedicated Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan, lost his life in a devastating landslide triggered by cloudburst rains in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports, a sudden cloudburst struck on August 14 while Biswal was on duty near the Machail Mata temple at Paddar in Kishtwar, triggering flash floods and massive landslides. And he went missing around 12:25 pm and his body was recovered by a rescue team on August 16 in the afternoon.
Biswal had served in the CISF for over 30 years, leaving behind his wife and two daughters. His younger brother, Biplab Biswal, is also serving in the CISF.
The martyr was given a grand farewell in a sea of people, with his last rites performed with full state honours at the village crematorium. The district administration and locals paid their respects to the brave jawan, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Earlier in the day, the mortal remains of Biswal, draped in the Tricolour, arrived at Bhubaneswar airport, where he was given a guard of honour with full state honours. The body was then taken to his ancestral village, where he was laid to rest with the respect and dignity he deserved.
Notably, the disaster claimed over 40 lives and injured more than 100 persons. Among the victims was CISF’s Manoj Biswal. He was caught in the fury of the torrential rains that ravaged the mountainous area, destroying camps and cutting off vital access routes.
